SUSTAINABILITY

With a lifelong passion for great jeans and a 30 year career working with one of the world's  best known denim brands, I truly understand the love we all have for our ‘favourite’ jeans - the best quality denim, the perfect wash, beautifully worn in, and versatile enough for any occasion.

Our favourite jeans have personality, stories to tell, secrets to keep, and make us feel great. With care, our favourite jeans seem to last forever.

Much is said of the harm done by the fashion industry to our environment. According to the United Nations the industry produces 20% of global water waste, is responsible for 8% of global greenhouse emissions, and every single second one refuse truck of textiles is sent to landfill or burned.

At Denim Library we believe there is much better use for the 2,000 gallons of water it takes to make one pair of new jeans, and we aspire to a community approach to reducing, even in a small way, the 350,000 tonnes of perfectly good clothing every year currently being put into landfill.

Our classic jeans, whether vintage or modern fits, are lovingly pre-owned with many years of faithful service and style ahead, and always at a fraction of the cost of new. It is claimed that by extending the use of our clothes by just an extra nine months we reduce the relative carbon, water and waste impacts of garments by 20-30%, so we like to think our customers look great, save money and help us contribute in a small way to our environment.

I wanted to create a ‘library’ where denim lovers could browse and find those amazing jeans, pre-loved, pre-worn, and ready for their next chapter. I wanted to create a place where customers can help in our small way to reduce the 350,000 tonnes of good clothing every year being put into landfill.

We try our best to be responsible in other ways too: We dispatch our products in 100% recyclable & biodegradable Kraft packaging, strong and re-useable; your jeans will be delivered 'au naturale' - we don't use unnecessary wrapping or packaging; and we ship just one day a week which means significantly fewer unnecessary van journeys and emissions. We hope you agree that the contribution is worth the short wait for your jeans.

And just because we know that those favourite jeans are often worn best with the ultimate t-shirt, I have designed and had made in the UK my very own 100% organic Supima cotton ‘Unpublished Tee’ which I know you’ll love as much as your jeans.
